Total Refinery Leuna – Switchgear Retrofit
At its Leuna/Spergau location, TOTAL operates a refinery for processing of approximately 11 million tons of crude oil per day. The technological systems are operated with about 1,300 low-voltage motors. All these motors are connected to slide switchgears type Norma block of the company GEC Alsthom of France. Each drive is monitored by an intelligent engine control unit of Evocom. These control units are discontinued since 2000 and therefore, the supply of spare parts is now becoming more of a problem.
AVI was commissioned with the planning for the modernization of the Low Voltage Switchgear of Total refinery Central Germany GmbH. The objective was to develop a solution to upgrade existing switchgears that the slide-in units remain mechanically received and the entire housing technology with the cables connected remains unaffected. It is important to ensure the operation/further operations of the existing switchgears, the extension of of existing switchgears in the framework of projects and ensuring the supply of spare parts for existing switchgears. These targets are implemented by repairing defective components and the gradual partial modernization for the production of spare parts (by detachment of complete switchgears and replacement of components using the switchgear).
Implementation is done in several phases:
- Replacement of a switchgear for the production of spare parts
2011: 6S52 with 60 slide-in units, SD2011
- Engineering and testing of upgraded slide-in untis with ABB UMC100 for continued operation in the existing switchgears
2013: 3 slide-in units as prototypes, manufacturing and testing
- Replacement of a further switchgear for the production of spare parts
2014: 3S51 with 113 slide-in units, T&I2014
- Construction of a second buscommunication structure within the switchgears to ECS. Old slide-in units with Evocom are upgraded with UMC100 (ABB) continue to operate within the existing switchgears.
